Christmas in Kolkata – 12th Edition of the Christmas Carnival

Christmas is a time when the city of joy turns into city of lights. Kolkata turns into a city where no one sleeps. Kolkata the city of joy celebrates Christmas with the same enthusiasm as it celebrates the different festivals. We the people of Kolkata may be divided by religion but we are united by the festival, coz the people of Kolkata celebrates all festival with the same energy as it celebrates Durga puja or eid.
Christmas in Kolkata is also known as “boro din” (Big Day) to Bengalis of Kolkata. The mild cold winters of Kolkata with the electric lighting all over the streets along with the street food and also the excitement of the new year coming make the atmosphere electrifying. Christmas carnival in Kolkata is one of the largest carnivals in India

This year the celebration of Christmas and the lighting will start on 20th December and will continue till the eve of the new year. Park street is famous for its themed lighting which starts from St Xavier’s College and ends at Jawaharlal Nehru Road. This has been extended in recent years at both ends – up to the Mullick Bazar crossing on Park Street and up to St Paul’s Cathedral on Cathedral Road, an offshoot of Jawaharlal Nehru Road.

Lake Town Shreebhumi
If you are eager to look behind park street for some new places in Kolkata have the same feeling just park street lake town is the perfect place it is an emerging place and also has the same vibe just like park street. Christmas has been celebrated alongside the VIP road from Golaghata to Bangur Avenue and has been decked up for an eight-day carnival, packed with food, music, and dance.
This year the Christmas carnival will start on the 21st of December and will continue till the 30th of December in Kolkata according to the West Bengal tourism minister.
The musical events will be held at Allen Park every year. Cultural programs will be held from December 21 to December 30, except on December 24 and 25 when Allen Park will be closed. The Buskers’ Musical program will be held on Camac Street from December to 21 December 23, from 6pm to 8pm.
